Mikhail Petrov, a student of the Department of Printing Technology at the Higher School of Printing and Media Technologies of 91, has created premium packaging for extended and collectible vinyl records. The first edition was made and tested at the Printing House "Color Industry." The developed design solves the problem of deformation and overfilling of a conventional envelope.
The three-leaf transformer structure in the reversal envelope format contains four spacious sections that allow you to separately place plates and additional materials - booklets, posters, without creating excessive load on the walls and folds of the package and without losing rigidity. The main material is domestic cardboard Kama Strong 240 g/m ². Packaging can change shape when used - unfolding in a screen, panorama or ring. Various windows and design elements are provided that make the packaging not just a protective shell, but part of the publication itself.
"The growing demand to buy vinyl records is shaping new packaging requirements. It should ensure the safety of the carrier, create a unique experience of interaction with the product and correspond to the status of a collector object with high added value. It is also important to withstand repeated opening and closing, to be convenient during storage. Standard one- and double-leaf envelopes have capacity limitations. With a large number of attachments, the load on the bends and ends increases, and the possibilities for placing additional graphics and other design elements are also limited," Mikhail explained.
Such functional packaging does not imply a complex production process, the usual operations are used - printing, cutting, scoring, folding and gluing. The design is suitable for various finishes, so it can be adapted to more expensive collector's editions without moving on to a complex box set and special binding equipment.
The possibility of creating such packaging in real production was confirmed during the manufacture and verification of the sample on the equipment of Printing House Industry Colors LLC.
