The cause of a fire that burned for two days last week at the historic Star of the West mill complex remains undetermined.  The fire broke out at about 8:45 a.m. Friday and crews remained on the scene throughout the weekend.  The Kent Fire Department said the investigation was continuing with investigators from the state fire marshal’s office on the scene.  The call from the city of Kent to conserve water while the blaze was in progress was rescinded Saturday, according to the Kent service director’s office.  North Water Street, however, remained closed ...

On Friday morning, 91���� issued an advisory to the community about a fire that erupted at the former Star of the West mill in downtown Kent. Though the smoke can be seen from a distance, there is no danger to the Kent Campus as the fire is contained to downtown. The Kent Fire Department is on the scene with help from multiple area fire departments to battle the blaze. Area businesses have been evacuated or closed for the day. Firefighters have blocked off the streets surrounding the mill, and the university is encouraging the community to stay away from downtown.   ...
