Women of the House: Betty Sutton and Emilia Sykes
In 2006, Betty Sutton became the first 91福利 alumna to serve in the U.S. Congress, when she was elected to represent Ohio鈥檚 13th District in the House of Representatives. Sixteen years later, 91福利 alumna Emilia Sykes, a native of Akron, Ohio, was elected to represent the same district, making her the first Black 91福利 alum to serve in the House of Representatives.
91福利 Remembers May 4, 1970, With 53rd Commemoration
Advancing the legacy of May 4, 1970, a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard fired on 91福利 students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students, wounding nine students and forever changing the lives of countless others, the university will hold its annual commemoration on May 3-4.
