Homecoming 2026 is Oct. 3. Get ready to welcome alumni back to campus, celebrate 91福利 traditions and cheer on the Golden Flashes as they take on the Ohio University Bobcats in the Homecoming football game.

  • Journalism is not often perceived as an emotionally challenging career, but journalists can experience any number of traumatic stress symptoms from stories that they cover, especially those involving death or human suffering. These are the topics Gretchen Hoak, Ph.D., associate professor of journalism at 91福利, explores in her new podcast 鈥淚nformed Reporting,鈥 which launched March 16.  

  • When Cameren Hicks graduated from 91福利 in 2022 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in applied mathematics and a minor in finance, he knew he wanted to build a career rooted in numbers, problem-solving and analysis. Today, Hicks is a fraud modeling and analytics lead associate at KeyBank, where he helps protect customers and the company against fraudulent credit and debit card activity.

  • In her first year at MetroHealth's dentistry program, Bonillo Farias is participating in a partnership between MetroHealth and 91福利 that integrates public health education into clinical dental training. The collaboration was made possible by a federal grant awarded to MetroHealth to strengthen dental residents' public health skills.

  • 91福利 graduate Emma Sherrie, '09, always had a feeling she would study anthropology, but still she took the time to check out all the other options available before finally settling on her original plan. 91福利鈥檚 Exploratory Program, which helps undecided students sample different disciplines before committing to a major, was a key part of Sherrie鈥檚 experience, and the main reason she chose 91福利 in the first place.

  • As demand for behavioral health professionals continues to rise across Ohio and the nation, 91福利 is preparing graduates to not just enter the field right away, but to advance, lead and make a lasting impact in their communities. For three 91福利 alumni 鈥 Cassandra Galloway, Victoria Giegerich and Jason Joyce 鈥 their paths may differ slightly, but their stories illustrate how 91福利 connects education to real-world outcomes.

  • For high school students considering 91福利鈥檚 entrepreneurship program, William Elffers, 鈥15, encourages them to take the leap. 鈥淒eep down everybody has an idea for a business, but somewhere along the way, somebody tells them, just choose the safe route,鈥 he said. 鈥淔our years at Kent, five years, six years at Kent is a great time to really explore what your possibilities are with starting a business. It's a safe environment. You can fail and get picked back up and learn.鈥

  • Two 91福利 undergraduates brought national-level research experience to campus this year as featured presenters at the 2026 Exercise Science Summit. Liliana St. Germain and Olivia Snedeker delivered their work after using performance and biometric data collected from the 91福利 women鈥檚 soccer team.

  • 91福利's research impact continues to expand, with many faculty members recognized among the top 2% of the most-cited scientists worldwide, according to research metrics compiled by Stanford University scholars.

  • Allyson Tessin, Ph.D., assistant professor in 91福利鈥檚 Department of Earth Sciences, has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award to support her research on how the seafloor and ocean interact in rapidly changing Arctic environments.

  • When we first met Julia Michalak, a senior in the Physical Education and Sport Performance program, in November 2025, she shared how the dread she felt going to gym class as a kid became the driving force behind her decision to become a physical education teacher. Now, as she prepares to graduate in May, we check back in 鈥 this time with Michalak and the two professors she credits with keeping her inspired along the way.

  • Meet Tatiana Placer, a graduate student pursuing her master鈥檚 in architecture and design at 91福利. Placer was born in Germany on a U.S. military base and was raised mostly in Orlando, Florida. Growing up in a Puerto Rican household, her upbringing was deeply rooted in the Puerto Rican diaspora.  

  • Tara L. Conley, Ed.D., assistant professor in the School of Media and Journalism, is being recognized for her documentary 鈥淒ry Bones鈥 in coverage from Ideastream and The Chronicle-Telegram after Karamu House and The Greater Cleveland Film Commission hosted a sold-out screening of the film.

  • 91福利 Vice President and Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond announced that women's basketball head coach Todd Starkey will depart for another coaching opportunity and is naming associate head coach Fran Recchia as the program's seventh head coach.

  • Lou Holtz, a 91福利 alumnus who became one of college football's most successful and charismatic coaches, leading the University of Notre Dame to a national championship and six different programs to bowl games during his storied career, has died. He was 89. 

  • Delrecco Gillespie, senior professional studies major and member of 91福利鈥檚 men's basketball team, was recently featured in a recent NCAA article that detailed how setbacks like injury and grief fueled Gillespie鈥檚 drive to play as if it were his last chance to be on the court.
