They’re back! 91���� students have begun their fall 2020 classes, and official enrollment figures include many highlights.

In partnership with 91����, Main Street Kent invites mask-wearing 91���� students to visit downtown Kent businesses for a chance to win great prizes.

Five students from 91���� at Geauga distinguished themselves as writing award winners during Spring Semester 2020. Each was a student of Bonnie Shaker, Ph.D., assistant professor of English. While 91���� Geauga students have won a total of 16 awards from 2014 through 2020 in different categories, five winners in one year is a notable achievement.

To celebrate Constitution Day, 91���� Libraries is offering a virtual screening of the documentary "And She Could Be Next" on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion that will include the filmmakers and 91���� faculty members.

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine has selected 91���� as a recipient of the 2020 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.

Two archrival men's basketball teams worked together to produce a powerful video supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and encouraging everyone to register to vote in the 2020 election.

WKSU and ideastream have been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting to explore opportunities for growth and expansion of public media service in Northeast Ohio.

91���� Assistant Professor of Painting Shawn Powell is being featured in a two-person show at Cleveland’s new Abattoir Gallery now through Sept. 5. One of Powell's paintings was featured in Vanity Fair this August.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded 91���� a $2.6 million, five-year TRIO Student Support Services program grant. The program serves students from first-generation and low-income backgrounds and students with diverse learning and physical abilities.

The Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recently awarded a $1.5 million, three-year grant to 91���� College of Nursing research faculty member Jim Tudhope, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC (principal investigator) and his team.

91���� students began moving into residence halls on the Kent Campus on Aug. 19, as part of a phased-in process that will continue over five days.
 

Among the festivities marking the beginning of this unconventional semester, one 91���� office is partnering with Portage County social service agencies to host a contactless food drive to collect items that will support members of campus and local communities. The Flashes Fighting Hunger Contactless Food Drive, organized by 91����’s Community Engaged Learning, will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4-8 p.m.

It’s move-in week at 91����. To count down to the return of students, faculty and staff for the start of the fall semester, the university reviews its final Flashes Safe Seven principle. This week, we focus on Always Wear Your Face Covering.

A panel of distinguished 91���� Faculty discussed what to expect with the safety conditions in place for face-to-face learning and how students can succeed regardless of how their classes are delivered.

Aidan Taylor, a senior who is seeking a double major in Digital Media Production and Pan African Studies, encourages the campus community to examine the United States' long history of racism and its impact on the future of our country.
