A 91¸£Àû tradition for 37 years, the annual Black Squirrel Festival will take place Friday, Sept. 7, from noon-5 p.m. on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival, which is hosted by the Flash Activities Board, attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community. 

The 91¸£Àû alumni network again grew its ranks this summer as more than a thousand Golden Flashes got their degrees. 91¸£Àû held its Summer 2018 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). The Kent Campus conferred 1,325 degrees.

91¸£Àû’s School of Fashion Design and Merchandising is once again ranked high among the nation’s elite, according to .

Their remarkable work takes place in studios, classrooms, laboratories and outdoors. They have been published in prestigious journals, authored books and received significant research grants. Now, they add a new honor to their list of notable achievements.

A group of sophomores from Firestone Community Learning Center in Akron  spent a week at 91¸£Àû exploring university programs and learning more about college and careers.

With a shared mission to help the youth in Akron earn a life-changing education, 91¸£Àû has teamed up with the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) to provide LJFF’s I PROMISE students with increased resources to help prepare them for college and beyond. As part of this long-term partnership, 91¸£Àû has committed to providing specialized programming to help I PROMISE students remain on target to graduate from high school and fully eligible for the college scholarships that have been committed to them.

A green roof, a geothermal heating and cooling system that is 300 percent more efficient than standard systems, and a 15,000-gallon gray tank that recycles rainwater for irrigation and flushing bathroom fixtures. These are just a few of the sustainability features that helped 91¸£Àû’s Center for Architecture and Environmental Design receive LEED Platinum recognition.  

George R. Newkome, Ph.D., and his wife, Mary Jane Saunders, Ph.D., have pledged $1 million to fund a first-ever professorship in materials science in 91¸£Àû’s College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Newkome is a two-time 91¸£Àû alumnus.
