Sixty-eight years ago, the Kent City Council and mayor dubbed Kent, Ohio, the state’s Tree City. This year marks the ninth year 91���� is being recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program.

91����’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its third annual 4.0 GPA Student-Athlete Breakfast on Feb. 2 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom Balcony.

Several new and renovated 91���� buildings received Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) recognition in 2016, bringing to 11 the total number of certified buildings on 91����’s campuses. LEED is a rating system that comes from the U.S. Green Building Council. There are four levels of certification: LEED certified, silver, gold and platinum. The projects most recently LEED certified include:

91���� scholar Melissa Zullo, Ph.D., is all heart, an academic who lives and breathes research, almost literally. Zullo, an associate professor of epidemiology in 91����’s College of Public Health, has spent a significant portion of her professional and academic career studying the best practices for helping cardiac and respiratory patients heal.

91���� held its 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. This year’s theme was “Testament of Hope: Past, Present and Future of Diversity.” The keynote speaker for the event was David Anderson, D.Phil. He is founder and president of the BridgeLeader Network (BLN), one of the world’s leading authorities on building bridges across the deep divides of race, faith, culture and wealth. 

91���� students, employees, alumni, donors and community members gathered on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center) to cheer on the Golden Flashes as 91���� Athletics launched its new branding and a whole new gameday experience. 

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced the designation of the 91���� May 4, 1970, Site as a . The site joins more than 2,500 historic places that bear the national distinction.

91���� will hold its Fall Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Friday, Dec. 16, and Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). 91���� will confer 2,544 degrees, including 1,773 bachelor’s degrees, 715 master’s degrees, 55 doctoral degrees and one educational specialist degrees.
